Mobile Home Safety Enforcement
Posted on: February 3, 2016 by Aegis Security Insurance

As any homeowner knows, the comfort and safety of the dwelling is the most important aspect of being home. Since virtually any home can be susceptible to a burglary, it is important to take the proper security steps to ensure the safety of loved ones. In addition to protecting their dwellings with a comprehensive Mobile Home Insurance Program, homeowners are advised to take the following security measures.
Locks on Windows, Doors, and Sliders
While this may be obvious, thieves can often slip through the unsecured areas without the homeowner’s knowledge. Lock the front doors and apply window locks if the home does not already come with them. Further, sliding doors leading to patios should be secured by putting a pipe in the slider channel. Don’t forget to lock garages and storage sheds, as well.
Light Up the Home
AARP states that thieves often prefer to operate in the cloak of darkness and for that reason, keep entryways, pathways, stairwells, porches, yards and parking areas well lit. Lights mounted up high are ideal as burglars cannot easily unscrew the bulbs. Or, simply add a motion detector to prevent wasting excess energy.
Make the Home Look Lived In
When traveling, have a neighbor or friend park their car in the driveway and pick up any mail or built up snow. Further, never announce the absence on a voicemail.
Additional Tips
Replacing flimsy door frames with solid ones will help to prevent burglaries as they are often destroyed during a break in. Further, it is advised that important documents and jewelry be placed in a safe rather than out in the open. While an alarm system is ideal, many police stations have officers who can help set up a neighborhood watch program as an alternative option.
