Motorcycle Maintenance Checklist

Owning a motorcycle is one of the most convenient and economical ways to get from point A to point B. While they may be less expensive to purchase, there are numerous maintenance tasks that are required to be completed on a regular basis in order to keep the bike in great condition. With that said, here is a comprehensive checklist that is designed to keep your motorcycle running smoothly. In addition, be sure to secure the vehicle with a customized Motorcycle Insurance Program.

Oil change.

Naturally, like every vehicle, the oil is the lifeblood of the motorcycle. The oil should be changed every 3,000-6,000 miles in order to keep the bike running without incident. Bear in mind that the bike will burn through more oil in the summer months than in winter, so adjust the maintenance schedule accordingly.

Tire maintenance.

Check the tires for any holes, nails, debris, or baldness. If the tread on the tire is less than 2 mm’s thick, it’s time to get them replaced immediately. Especially as the rider’s safety depends on this feature, stay on top of motorcycle’s tire health.

Lights and brakes.

It’s important to check your motorcycle’s lights, indicators and brakes before every ride. Motorcycle experts also recommend checking the chain tension and lubrication every month and checking the control cables every two months, says Angie’s List.

Find the right service center.

Not all car shops work on motorcycles, so be sure to find a location that specializes in bikes and that has the knowledge to provide quality service. Not only can these professionals provide general maintenance and advice, but they can provide the necessary recommendations that are specific to the motorcycle.
