Renovations that Boost Home Values

Posted on: May 3, 2016 by Aegis Security Insurance

As homeowners, a laundry list of chores are likely piling up to maintain the regular wear and tear of the home. As owners are on the hook for all repairs and renovations, it makes sense to invest in the home wisely. Rather than spend money on something that won’t provide a large return on investment, consider opting for these value-boosting renovations. More importantly, however, is ensuring the home is protected with the best Homeowners Insurance Program available.

Makeover the front yard.

As the front yard gives the first impression of the home, this is naturally one of the most logical renovations to do. Especially for budget-conscious renovators, adding pops of color to the front planter and reseeding the lawn are relatively inexpensive. Or, consider adding a paved walkway to spruce the curb appeal.

HVAC replacement.

This isn’t typically the first improvement that comes to mind to boost value. However, an updated HVAC system can save money on energy bills. Plus, a new HVAC system is a great selling feature for homes.

Brighten up the space.

Add recessed lighting, put dimmers on light switches, and add new windows to brighten up the space. A dark, closed-off room does nothing for a home’s value, so don’t be shy about adding light.

Add wood floors.

More and more people are seeing the value in hardwood floors. Not only are they easy to clean and maintain, but they add an elegant touch to any home. Whether it’s engineered or real, there are plenty of different options for improving the home’s floors on almost any budget.

Bathroom makeover.

This doesn’t have to be incredibly pricey. Matt Blashaw of the DIY Network states “You don’t have to go crazy: Install new fixtures, re-grout the shower, add crown molding and brighten up the room with some paint.” Or, try using a textured wallpaper to add some depth to the room and create the “wow-factor.”
